Our Program

The Fit Kidz Learning for Life™ Early Education Program, was developed to provide a basic structure for our Team to follow in delivering our educational programs. We’ve considered the latest early childhood studies, our own program beliefs, and also the new national Early Years Learning Framework.
The Framework's vision is for all children to experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life. It describes childhood as a time of belonging, being and becoming.
- Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel they belong because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place.
- Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time to just "be" - time to play, try new things and have fun.
- Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become.
Our Program is delivered in partnership with families, children's first and most influential educators, to develop learning pathways that are responsive to children's ideas, interests, strengths and abilities. It's split into three as follows:
Our Baby Program (age 0-2 - Not available at Glenwood North)
PLAY IS LEARNING
Play is very important for children. Through play babies and young children explore and learn to understand the world around them as they come to communicate, discover, imagine and create.
When children play they are showing what they have learned and what they are trying to understand. This is why play is one of the foundations of our Program. By using it, our Team will guide your child's play by carefully designing learning activities and stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
The program focuses on your child's learning. Our Team will work with you to get to know your child well. They will create a learning program that builds on your child's interests and abilities, and keep you in touch with your child's progress. As outlined by the Framework, our teachers will assist to ensure that:

WATCHING YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS
We will observe your child's learning so that we can build on it and plan the next steps. We do this by listening, watching and talking to your child. We will keep in touch with you regularly to discuss your child's progress, and we maintain the following records for you to view at any time:
- Portfolios: Staff develop and maintain an individual Portfolio for each child in the Centre throughout the year. This folder contains unique information about your child’s activities and development through photos, samples of artworks, staff observations and developmental checklists. It provides you with an overall picture of your child’s time in care with us. You are welcome to view this at any time, and it will be our gift to you at the end of each year and is a lovely keepsake to share with friends and family.
- Day Books: The daybook is presented as a Powerpoint slide-show on the computer in each Playroom. They provide parents with information about the day “at a glance”, and contain photos of the children and details about activities and the day’s focus. Our Team take great pride in the presentation of this work, and hope that it will provide you with some valuable conversation with your little one each day after pick-up. Many parents choose to have the daybook emailed to them during their work day to see what their child is up to at Fit Kidz.
- Communication Books: A communication book can provide an important link between parents and carers. We understand that you do not always have a lot of time on drop-off or collection, and sometimes there is a lot of information to share, so these books can make this easier by way of written record. In it we note things like meals eaten and timing, sleep times, toileting info etc.
Parents provide us with a valuable link to the uniqueness of each individual child. We value our parent input/suggestions into our curriculum and enjoy hearing about special events or weekend activities that may add a unique and different aspect to our daily activities. Please feel free to share and swap information with your child’s room teachers or the Director at any time.

Paving Pathways - This area of our program stimulates cognitive development. During this stage of development children’s thinking strategies are dominated by information taken in through the use of their motor actions and exploration using their senses. Sensory play in a variety of forms is used as an important learning tool. |

Language For Life - Language for Life activities help develop skills in an environment rich with sounds, sights and consistent exposure to speech and language. To encourage the development and confidence of language we provide activities such as, story time, action songs, group discussions and personal interactions. We also provide visual aids to help enhance the children’s connection between words and pictures or actions. |

Social Stepping Stones - In this area of our program we aim to promote early social interactions and conversations, develop facial expressions to communicate and support self-identity. Social and emotional development is the key to successful learning and happiness therefore it is an area of development that we want to encourage on a daily basis. The current early years learning framework for Australia believes (as we do) that there are 3 words to describe the fundamental characteristics that support and encourage a child’s development and sense of identity. They are belonging, being and becoming. Experiencing belonging – knowing where and with whom you belong – is integral to human existence. Being – childhood is a time to be, to seek and make meaning of the world. Becoming – children’s identities, knowledge, understandings, capabilities, skills and relationships change during childhood. They are shaped by many different events and circumstances. |

Building Blocks - Building blocks offers experiences to enhance and develop physical strength and motor co-ordination. Children will learn to explore through sight, sound and touch. Learning opportunities offered will include building using blocks and mobilo, soft foam shapes, digging in the sandpit and manipulating dough and clay. It is through the continued involvement in these types of hands on experiences that infants and toddlers will develop and increase their hand/eye co-ordination and general whole body coordination and movement. |

Fitness Foundations - Being healthy physically is a necessary pre-condition to being able to develop in all areas. Physical health is the basic foundation for children’s learning and development. Physical development of coordinated motor skills is a large part of an infant's first year. Fitness Foundations activities help build physical strength and motor coordination with daily experiences that allow infants to practice fine-motor skills, hand/eye coordination, full body movement, and more. |

Constructing Creativity - Creativity occurs naturally within babies and toddlers. If nurtured creativity will grow and expand throughout your child’s lifetime. Creativity can be expressed in many different forms. In the infant and toddler age group we use music and dance as a focal point for creative development as well as tactile experiences such as painting, goop and dough. We also encourage creative expression through spontaneous activities such as drawing patterns in the sand. |

Inspiring Imaginations - Imagination is at the heart of all creativity. One way we can help children develop their imagination further is to transform the space they play and learn in, so that children are inspired by their surroundings to engage in play. Hands-on, sensory spaces encourage children to experience new things and give them the opportunity to play and learn at their own pace, and in their own way. By letting the children direct their own activities they become more confident about their own creativity, and value it more. In this spontaneous area of our program we also encourage family involvement. We welcome your suggestions and want to work in partnership with families to help see all the children in our care reach their full potential. |
Thank you for taking the time to read our program information. We feel that it is important for all of our families to know that we strive to develop and enhance the abilities of each individual child in our care. As part of our OPEN DOOR policy we absolutely welcome parent comment and discussion. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you would like to discuss any area of your child's development.
We look forward to providing your child/ren with a safe, warm and caring environment in which to play and learn, and you with the peace of mind that this will bring.

Broadening Brains - Children have a thirst for knowledge, and our program offers them a variety of stimulating activities to encourage the desire to learn and encourage further brain development. All of our fun experiences have a purpose and although the children see these experiences as just “play”, they are learning experiences that will enrich their individual minds. Activities and experiences such as matching and sorting, exploring colours, counting, and categorising objects assist children in learning about the world around them and how things work and operate. |

Communicating Connections - A foundation for reading success begins as early as the first few months of life. Introducing toddlers to books and language nourishes early literacy development. Toddlers focus on first words and phrases, vocabulary development, following simple directions, and identifying and naming familiar items. To encourage this growth and development we offer a variety of different experiences including language groups, individual work, visual displays, flash cards and constant communication. |

Construction Zone - During the early years in a toddler’s life, development of coordination and motor skills are important. The construction experiences we offer are varied and may include anything from building with blocks to digging in the sandpit or assembling a herb garden. Through involvement in these types of experiences children will develop physical strength as well as enhance their motor coordination. Through the continual involvement in these types of hands-on experiences toddlers will develop and increase their general whole body coordination and movement and extend upon their knowledge of the world. |

Awareness Of The Arts - Awareness of the Arts incorporates expression of creativity through craft, music and dance, and drama experiences. During the toddler stage we see an increased response to the awareness of the arts. If nurtured, creativity will grow and expand throughout a young child’s lifetime. In the toddler age group we use music and dance as a focal point for creative development. The children are exposed to many types of dance and music from around the world to allow a broad appreciation and understanding to occur. Tactile experiences such as painting, goop and dough are also an integral part of art. We also encourage creative expression through spontaneous activities such as drawing patterns in the sand or viewing patterns of rain as they fall from the sky. We provide aesthetically pleasing environments in which the children can learn, create and appreciate. We encourage all children to express their ideas and thoughts in order to build confidence, independence and imagination. |

Before your child starts school we will prepare informatioon about your child's learning and development to share with their new teacher. This will help ensure that the new school is well prepared to continue your child's learning.

Exploring English - Exploring English is an area of our program that is explored throughout every day at Fit Kidz. Language development assists in all areas of development. Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they actually read and write. Research shows that children arriving at school with the following early literacy skills are more likely to be successful in learning to read and write. Exploring English will develop children’s awareness in areas such as: vocabulary development, narrative skills, letter knowledge, print awareness, print motivation and phonological awareness. |

Experimenting With Science & Technology - A child's mind for science will become stronger through hands-on experiences when he or she learns to predict results, test ideas and draw conclusions. As an explorer in this new world, each child will examine and use various tools of discovery. At Fit Kidz we believe it is important to encourage children to construct their own understandings of science and technology. We offer experiences that allow children to understand cause and effect, spatial awareness and experiences that allow children to make decisions and see the results. |

Mathematical Beginnings - Mathematics and numeracy are incorporated into many facets of our daily program. We see children’s understanding increase during a variety of experiences including cooking experiences where children are given the opportunity to measure and weigh ingredients. Water play also allows children to explore the properties of volume and weight. We can also see the concepts extended during sand play and science experiences. Mathematical Beginnings also includes daily experiences such as counting, number writing, grouping items and sequencing. Problem solving during building structures and puzzles also allows children to increase their mathematical knowledge. |

Our Planet & The Environment - In today’s society it is imperative that children are exposed to the vastness and diversity of the world in which we live. In order for children to become empathetic, compassionate and embrace the world in which we live, they need to be offered the opportunity to learn and understand the issues facing society as a whole. With this in mind we ensure that children are offered the opportunities to learn about other cultures. We talk about what makes us the same and what makes us different. This assists in the promotion of tolerance and equality. At Fit Kidz we believe children need to be introduced to the importance of our environment. We explore nature and how we can live our lives whilst sustaining our environment. We encourage our children to learn about how to have a positive impact on our environment and learn to make choices that benefit their world. |

Awareness Of The Arts - Participation in creative arts and music allows children to share their talents. This offers the children the opportunity to gain self confidence. Exposing children to works by master artists and then asking them to create their own interpretation inspires children to find their own unique voice. In the pre school age group we use many different forms for children to express themselves. Art and craft allow children to create on their own or with others. Children are encouraged to use an array of materials and are given adequate time to express themselves. Music and dance is also used as a focal point for creative development. The children are exposed to many types of dance and music from around the world to allow a broad appreciation and understanding to occur. The use of dramatic arts such as acting and role playing through the use of props and puppets also allow children to express themselves and convey messages. |

Harnessing Healthy Habits - Children lead very active lives. They need a variety of nutritious foods for the growth and development of their minds and bodies. Concentration and learning are improved when children receive nutritionally sound meals and have an understanding of healthy habits. Well nourished and active children are more likely to be alert, vigorous, happy and interested in age-related activities. Good health and wellbeing helps them to have happier relationships with other children, their families and with you. We consider it our role not only to cater for the nurturing and educational needs of each individual child, but we feel a responsibility for the health and fitness of the little minds and bodies that are in our care. It is often said that our attitudes to healthy eating and fitness are carried forward from childhood; therefore it is our aim to assist your efforts at home by placing your child on the right path to a long and healthy life. |
