Be Safe – Child Safety at Fit Kidz
Our Commitment to Child Safety
At Fit Kidz, child safety is not simply a policy, it is part of our everyday practice, culture, and responsibility, and the safety and wellbeing of children will always be our highest priority. We are committed to creating environments where children are physically safe, emotionally secure, respected and heard, while families feel confident in the care we provide.
Our approach to child safety is guided by strong relationships, clear policy and expectations, ongoing education, and a culture where every child’s voice matters.

Our Child Safety Policies & Practices
Our policies and procedures are designed to protect children, guide best practice, and ensure all educators understand their responsibilities in keeping children safe.
These policies are regularly reviewed and strengthened to reflect current legislation, sector expectations, and continuous improvement within our services.
Professional Conduct & Educator Expectations
Every Fit Kidz educator is expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, respect, and ethical behaviour.
We are committed to always creating safe and respectful interactions with children, with clear expectations around professional boundaries, communication, supervision, and conduct.
Safe Recruitment, Training & Team Standards
The people we employ matter deeply.
All educators and team members:
- Are rigorously reference checked on recruitment.
- Hold a valid Working With Children Check, which is re-checked every six months and renewed every three years.
- Agree to our comprehensive Code of Conduct and Child Safe statement.
- Complete Fit Kidz induction and child safety training.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning and development
We do not use agency staff, ever, ensuring children are cared for by familiar educators who are part of our Fit Kidz community. Proudly, our staff retention rates are extremely high for the sector, and an educator’s starting date with us is displayed wherever their staff photo appears in the Centre or online.
Child Safety Procedures & Everyday Practices
Child safety is embedded into our everyday routines, environments, and interactions.
From supervision practices and bathroom procedures to arrivals, departures, and responding to concerns, our teams follow clear processes designed to support the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every child.
Safe, Secure & Thoughtfully Designed Environments
We intentionally create environments that support visibility, supervision, and safe learning experiences.
Our centres include:
- Open and visible learning spaces
- Secure entry and exit procedures
- Daily safety and risk checks
- Carefully designed indoor and outdoor environments
Every space is designed with children’s safety, wellbeing, and engagement in mind.
Emotional Safety & Wellbeing
We believe children thrive when they feel safe emotionally as well as physically.
Our educators build warm, responsive relationships with children and support them to:
- Express their feelings
- Build confidence and resilience
- Develop respectful relationships
- Understand personal safety and boundaries
We are committed to creating environments where children feel valued, included, and empowered.
Supervision, Ratios & Team Presence
Children are always supervised in a way that prioritises safety, connection, and support.
At Fit Kidz:
- Required staffing ratios are ALWAYS maintained
- Educators are never left alone with children
- There are always at least two educators present, even when the group size might only call for one.
- Teams work collaboratively to always ensure active supervision and cross supervision between zones.
This shared approach strengthens both safety and quality interactions.
Working in Partnership with Families
We believe strong family partnerships are essential to child safety and wellbeing.
We are committed to open, respectful communication and ensuring families feel informed, supported, and connected to their child’s experience within our centres.
Digital Safety & Protecting Privacy
We take children’s privacy and digital safety seriously.
Our Code of Conduct ensures that:
- no personal devices (including smartwatches) are kept on staff, students and volunteers that enter children’s areas including outdoor spaces.
- we maintain strict “no photography” rules during tours or visits to protect all children’s privacy.
- Any photographs of children for observation or Storypark purposes are taken with a service-issued tablet (ipad) which are registered and managed by us and have content filtering installed. They never leave the premises.
- We will always seek written parental consent before any photos identifying children are used for social media or external purposes.
Our goal is to protect children while still allowing families to feel meaningfully connected to their child’s learning journey.
Empowering Children Through Their Voice
At Fit Kidz, we believe every child has the right to feel heard, respected, and included in decisions that affect them.
We intentionally create opportunities for children to:
- Express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas
- Make choices and develop confidence
- Build independence and self-advocacy skills
- Learn that their voice matters
By listening to children and valuing their perspectives, we help build a strong sense of identity, belonging, and emotional safety.
Teaching Children About Safety in Age-Appropriate Ways
We believe children can learn important safety messages in ways that are gentle, empowering, and developmentally appropriate.
Through conversations, stories, group discussions, role play, and everyday learning experiences, children are supported to:
- Understand feelings and emotions
- Identify trusted adults
- Learn about personal boundaries
- Feel confident to speak up and seek help
Our goal is never to create fear, but to build confidence, trust, and protective behaviours in a safe and supportive environment.
Our Be Safe Program
Our Be Safe Program supports children to develop an understanding of personal safety, respectful relationships, and emotional wellbeing.
Using child-friendly resources, stories, and characters, educators introduce important safety concepts in ways that feel calm, reassuring, and empowering for young children in an age-appropriate way.
The program focuses on key messages such as:
- “I am the boss of my body”
- “My feelings matter”
- “Private parts are private”
- “Safe and unsafe secrets”
- “Trusted adults can help me”
These conversations are embedded naturally into everyday learning in conversation and story books and in relationships.
Building Confidence, Resilience & Belonging
A strong sense of wellbeing and belonging is an important protective factor for children.
At Fit Kidz, we intentionally support children to:
- Build positive relationships
- Develop confidence and resilience
- Practice kindness, empathy, and inclusion
- Feel safe being themselves
When children feel connected, valued, and supported, they are more likely to thrive emotionally, socially, and developmentally.
Working Together to Support Children
We believe protecting children is strongest when educators and families work together.
By sharing information, maintaining open communication, and building trusting partnerships, we can consistently support children’s safety, wellbeing, confidence, and development both at home and within our centres.
