PLAY IS LEARNING
Play is very important for children. Through play young children explore and learn to understand the world around them as they come to communicate, discover, imagine and create.
When children play they are showing what they have learned and what they are trying to understand. This is why play is one of the foundations of our Program. By using it, our Team will guide your child’s play by carefully designing learning activities and stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
The program focuses on your child’s learning. Our Team will work with you to get to know your child well. They will create a learning program that builds on your child’s interests and abilities, and keep you in touch with your child’s progress. As outlined by the Framework, our teachers will assist to ensure that:
- Children have a strong sense of their identity
- Children have a strong sense of well being
- Children are effective communicators
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children are confident and involved learners
WATCHING YOUR CHILD’S PROGRESS
We will observe your child’s learning so that we can build on it and plan the next steps. We do this by listening, watching and talking to your child. We will of course chat with you regularly, and also engage via StoryPark!
Parents provide us with a valuable link to the uniqueness of each individual child. We value our parent input/suggestions into our curriculum and enjoy hearing about special events or weekend activities that may add a unique and different aspect to our daily activities. Please feel free to share and swap information with your child’s room teachers or the Director at any time.
The Becoming Me Workbook – ‘Becoming Me’ is our exclusive school readiness program devised by qualified teachers in consultation with local schools. ‘Becoming Me’ is offered throughout the year to ensure that your child is given maximum opportunity to learn new skills, as well as refining existing abilities. Every child at Fit Kidz Learning Centre will engage in this comprehensive program in their final year before school. ‘Becoming Me’ operates on the philosophy that constant exposure in a stimulating environment is the best way pre-school children learn. With this in mind we offer a comprehensive program that covers all areas of development with adequate time and support for each child to learn. ‘Becoming Me’ is presented in a stage appropriate way that promotes interest and assists your child in becoming an active learner. This assists your child to develop to their full potential. Your child will have fun and learn at the same time, ensuring that together we have given them a solid foundation from which to begin their schooling life.
Exploring English – Exploring English is an area of our program that is explored throughout every day at Fit Kidz. Language development assists in all areas of development. Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they actually read and write. Research shows that children arriving at school with the following early literacy skills are more likely to be successful in learning to read and write. Exploring English will develop children’s awareness in areas such as: vocabulary development, narrative skills, letter knowledge, print awareness, print motivation and phonological awareness.
Experimenting With Science & Technology – A child’s mind for science will become stronger through hands-on experiences when he or she learns to predict results, test ideas and draw conclusions. As an explorer in this new world, each child will examine and use various tools of discovery. At Fit Kidz we believe it is important to encourage children to construct their own understandings of science and technology. We offer experiences that allow children to understand cause and effect, spatial awareness and experiences that allow children to make decisions and see the results.
Mathematical Beginnings – Mathematics and numeracy are incorporated into many facets of our daily program. We see children’s understanding increase during a variety of experiences including cooking experiences where children are given the opportunity to measure and weigh ingredients. Water play also allows children to explore the properties of volume and weight. We can also see the concepts extended during sand play and science experiences. Mathematical Beginnings also includes daily experiences such as counting, number writing, grouping items and sequencing. Problem solving during building structures and puzzles also allows children to increase their mathematical knowledge.
Our Planet & The Environment – In today’s society it is imperative that children are exposed to the vastness and diversity of the world in which we live. In order for children to become empathetic, compassionate and embrace the world in which we live, they need to be offered the opportunity to learn and understand the issues facing society as a whole. With this in mind we ensure that children are offered the opportunities to learn about other cultures. We talk about what makes us the same and what makes us different. This assists in the promotion of tolerance and equality. At Fit Kidz we believe children need to be introduced to the importance of our environment. We explore nature and how we can live our lives whilst sustaining our environment. We encourage our children to learn about how to have a positive impact on our environment and learn to make choices that benefit their world.
Awareness Of The Arts – Participation in creative arts and music allows children to share their talents. This offers the children the opportunity to gain self confidence. Exposing children to works by master artists and then asking them to create their own interpretation inspires children to find their own unique voice. In the pre school age group we use many different forms for children to express themselves. Art and craft allow children to create on their own or with others. Children are encouraged to use an array of materials and are given adequate time to express themselves. Music and dance is also used as a focal point for creative development. The children are exposed to many types of dance and music from around the world to allow a broad appreciation and understanding to occur. The use of dramatic arts such as acting and role playing through the use of props and puppets also allow children to express themselves and convey messages.
Harnessing Healthy Habits – Children lead very active lives. They need a variety of nutritious foods for the growth and development of their minds and bodies. Concentration and learning are improved when children receive nutritionally sound meals and have an understanding of healthy habits. Well nourished and active children are more likely to be alert, vigorous, happy and interested in age-related activities. Good health and wellbeing helps them to have happier relationships with other children, their families and with you. We consider it our role not only to cater for the nurturing and educational needs of each individual child, but we feel a responsibility for the health and fitness of the little minds and bodies that are in our care. It is often said that our attitudes to healthy eating and fitness are carried forward from childhood; therefore it is our aim to assist your efforts at home by placing your child on the right path to a long and healthy life.
Inspiring Imaginations– Imagination is at the heart of all creativity. One way we can help children develop their imagination further is to transform the space they play and learn in, so that children are inspired by their surroundings to engage in play. Hands-on, sensory spaces encourage children to experience new things and give them the opportunity to play and learn at their own pace, and in their own way. By letting the children direct their own activities they become more confident about their own creativity, and value it more. In this spontaneous area of our program we also encourage family involvement. We welcome your suggestions and want to work in partnership with families to help see all the children in our care reach their full potential.
Thank you for taking the time to read our program information. We feel that it is important for all of our families to know that we strive to develop and enhance the abilities of each individual child in our care. As part of our OPEN DOOR policy we absolutely welcome parent comment and discussion. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you would like to discuss any area of your child’s development.
We look forward to providing your child/ren with a safe, warm and caring environment in which to play and learn, and you with the peace of mind that this will bring.
